Wise King Solomon

King Solomon asked God for something really important, and God gave it to him!

Solomon was David’s son, and when David was old and about to die, he made Solomon king. Solomon wanted to be a good king and he asked God for help. Now, most kings might’ve asked for a bigger army or more money to build a bigger palace. But, that’s not what Solomon wanted. Solomon wanted God’s wisdom. Wisdom is just a fancy word for wanting to know what’s right and wrong and the ability to make the right decisions. That was a great request, right? Solomon wanted to honor God as king! So, God gave Solomon wisdom and Solomon is known as the wisest man to ever live! There is a story that became famous about Solomon and his wisdom. Two women came before him to settle a dispute. Both claimed to be the mom of a baby. Solomon said, “Just cut the baby in half so you can both have part of the baby.” One woman thought that was a good idea. The other said, “No way! I don’t want to hurt the baby. She can have the baby.” Solomon’s suggestion wasn’t real. He knew that the real mom wouldn’t hurt the baby. Solomon’s wisdom revealed the truth. Do you know that we can have God’s wisdom, too? Just like Solomon, we can ask God for wisdom to make right decisions and he’ll give it to us!
